Multiday ski tour Gauli
4 days in the heart of the Bernese Alps
Gauli? Never heard of it? The Gauli area stretches between the Grimsel Pass and Grindelwald, a hidden treasure nestled in the majestic mountain landscape, especially in spring a paradise for high-altitude ski tours.
Ski touring from hut to hut is an absolute highlight. The Bachlital and Gauli huts are ingeniously nestled in wonderfully beautiful mountain scenery and form our starting points. The access to the Gauli hut via the adventurous Bächlilücke promises a good portion of thrills already at the start! The basin around the Gaulisee offers countless ski touring possibilities.
We crown our touring week with the ascent of the Ränfenhorn and a descent over the picturesque Rosenlaui glacier. An unforgettable adventure that completely fulfills us in the midst of alpine splendor.

- Day Meeting point 8 am Meiringen. Ride by cab to the Rätrichsbodensee. Ascent to the Bächli hut.
- Day Tour via Oberi Bächlilücke and Hubelhorn to Gauli hut.
- Day ascent Ewigschneehorn, descent to Gauli hut.
- Day ascent Ränfenhorn, descent via Rosenlauigletscher.
Can I book the tour privately with my colleagues?
Yes, of course it is possible. The optimal group size is about 2-6 people. It is an advantage if all have about the same level in the ascent and in the descent.
Where is the meeting point?
The starting point is Meiringen. Meiringen is well served by public transport. From there we continue by cab. The costs will be shared among the participants. approx. 40.-
Am I fit enough for the tour?
It is more strenuous to be on skis/snowboard every day than to do a one-day tour with 1500m. Prepare yourself well for the tour days with regular training and tours. So the whole thing is much more fun for you.
What happens in case of bad weather?
In case of uncertain conditions we will decide 1 day before the tour if we will go or not. If we don’t do the tour in the Gauli area, we will look for an alternative. This can be a 4 day tour from the hotel. If we can’t offer an alternative, the costs will be refunded minus the settlement fees. The booking is binding. Therefore, if you do not want to participate in the alternative program, you will not be refunded.
Technical requirements
Good skiing technique downhill next to the slope up to moderately steep terrain 35-40°. You can get down everywhere; if not with easy turns, then just with sliding sideways… No marks are given for stems.
Climbs up to 1500m with the skins are fun, as long as the descent is worth it! Also short, steep portages (carrying skis on the backpack) are more fun than scary.
You can ascend with hard irons on a track even if it is a bit hard in parts. You have practiced the hairpin turns beforehand and can get around the corners without falling.
Mental & physical requirements
To stand on the skis every day is more exhausting than to do a day tour with 1500m. Even if on the normal Urner Haute Route there are less altitude meters to manage. Prepare yourself well for the touring days with regular training and tours. So the whole thing is much more fun for you. The UHR is technically more demanding than the big classic Chamonix-Zermatt. Alpine technical knowledge is an advantage, but not mandatory.
Basic experience with avalanche beacon, probe, shovel and avalanche prevention would be desirable.
