When do you decide whether the course will take place due to weather conditions?
We need dry rock to conduct the course. We will contact you 2–3 days before the course to provide an update. If the weather forecast is unstable, we may have to make a last-minute decision.

Do I need to attend the Basic Climbing Course first?
If you already have some experience in rock climbing and can comfortably lead climb at a 4th-grade level, you do not need to attend the Basic Climbing Course and can join the MSL Basic course directly.

What happens in bad weather, e.g., if it rains all day?
In case of bad weather, the course will either be held at an alternative location in Central Switzerland (Engelberg Valley, Sisikon Uri) or we will offer you a rescheduled date from our calendar.

What if I can’t attend any of the proposed rescheduled dates due to bad weather?
If none of the proposed dates work for you, we will refund your money. For this, we will need your IBAN, account holder's name, and postal code/town. Please send this information via email.

Depending on the weather, snow conditions, and participants’ abilities, we will choose appropriate climbing routes. Below is a list of possible course areas:

  • Engelberg, Brunni “Climbing Learning Path”
Climb over small towers on the Bettlerstock. The final summit can only be reached by climbing—an exciting peak! The mountain guide can closely supervise and coach, as they can walk along the side. Not ideal in cold temperatures or after rain. (Fourth-grade difficulty required) | Topo
  • Engelberg, Surenental “Adler & Geier”
Fantastic summer tours with great ambiance in the mountains. Should be dry and warm for several days. Thanks to the slightly longer approach (45 minutes), we’ll likely have the place to ourselves. (End of fourth-grade difficulty required) | Topo
  • Engelberg, Stäfeli “Äbnet Wäg or Neutour Fredi”
Perfect for a practical tour combined with RAW training at Leitistein, in steep and solid rock. Ideal if you’re already leading at a solid fifth-grade level. (Solid fifth-grade difficulty required) | Topo
  • Beckenried, Risletten “Plattenknüller”
Ideal when there is snow at higher altitudes or wet conditions due to a high cloud base. A simple multi-pitch tour in an old quarry. (Fourth-grade difficulty required) | Topo
  • Erstfeld, Nollen “Toni-Zimmermann Weg”
Good for when there is snow at higher altitudes or wet conditions due to a high cloud base. A simple multi-pitch route with plenty of bolts above Erstfeld. (Fourth-grade difficulty required) | Topo |
  • Pilatus Galtigentürme
We can provide excellent coaching here if you already have climbing experience. | Topo
  • Steinbruch Brunnen “Träumli & 5er und Weggli”
The old quarry near the road in Brunnen offers beautiful slab climbing. Sunny and warm even in cooler months. The bolt spacing is somewhat inconsistent, particularly on the left route. (Solid slab climbing at grade 4 required) | Topo
